Everything will usually be a yes, but please do scheme with me for more serious things!

Warnings: Mettaton is very flippant about violence, and vaguely sexual most of the time, so please let me know if you want me to tone him down at all, and I definitely will!

IC Information
Name: Mettaton
Canon: Undertale
Gender: Male
Age: Unknown. Monster aging is weird, but he hasn't been a robot for very long, at least.
History: Wiki
Personality:
THEN USING YOUR SOUL, I'LL CROSS THROUGH THE BARRIER...
AND BECOME THE STAR I'VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF BEING!
HUNDREDS, THOUSANDS... NO! MILLIONS OF HUMANS WILL WATCH ME!
GLITZ! GLAMOUR! I'LL FINALLY HAVE IT ALL!
SO WHAT IF A FEW PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE?

Mettaton is a robot/monster tv star who dreams big and will stop at absolutely nothing in the pursuit of those dreams, up to and including resorting to violence to get there. He recognizes that the player character in a pacifist or a neutral run is weak, and does not think they're capable of taking on Asgore and surviving in the end to escape the underground, and figures that - if the human is going to lose their soul anyway - it would be put to better use going to him, so he can be a (somewhat literal) breakout star on the surface instead of letting Asgore wage war and kill all the humans. At the same time, this is his first time encountering a human, yet is still confident enough in himself that he'll be able to make it that he doesn't hesitate or falter in the slightest. The idea that humans might not like him never so much as crosses his mind. He likes himself, monsters have loved him so far, and that's all that he needs to go on.

OH??? A MIRROR???
RIGHT, I HAVE TO LOOK PERFECT FOR OUR GRAND FINALE!

That confidence comes, in no small part, from a healthy dose of vanity. He's beautiful, talented, loved by (most) all, and he knows it, and relishes it. The vanity itself is somewhat understandable; however, as his body was custom-made for a ghost who was never content with being a ghost (or a training dummy, or whatever else extended family might have possessed), but wasn't happy with the options he had available to him, and who had already come to accept that he'd never find the kind of body he was looking for. What he ended up with was "beyond his wildest dreams," so it stands to reason that he'd fawn over himself, even if others view it as over the top or too much.

NEXT UP, MORE DRAMA!
MORE ROMANCE!!!
MORE BLOODSHED!!!

As one might expect from a flamboyant entertainment robot, Mettaton is very, very dramatic. He often uses big gestures and language designed to create excitement for whatever he is promoting or talking about. He poses, often, because the audience supposedly loves it, and he loves the audience, so it simply seems the natural thing to do. In pursuit of dramatic tension, he'll often fabricate it himself, with leading questions in his quiz show or coming right out and pointing out things which might be embarrassing to those who the details belong to, or stepping up to act as an audience avatar for those watching the show and, if necessary, even those playing the game ("OH MY GOD! WILL YOU TWO JUST SMOOCH ALREADY!?"). Unfortunately, in pursuit of dramatic tension, he has very few qualms with resorting to outright violence, threatening and outright harming the player character often, even before his boss fight, to further Alphys's agenda of saving them, even going so far as deciding to kill the player himself when the act is too much, and doesn't ever seem to regret this.

OH NO. YOU DEACTIVATED THE BOMB WITH YOUR HACKING SKILLS.
[//]
YOU'VE DEFEATED ME!!
HOW CAN THIS BE, YOU WERE STRONGER THAN I THOUGHT, ETC.
WHATEVER.

Despite his flair for the dramatic, he seems to have little patience for dramatics which he hasn't created, or which rely on others competently carrying out their end of the act. When he keeps having to prompt Alphys into saying her lines, on top of pretending to be a weak, minor villain, he quickly grows short and sarcastic, going through the motions, but not actually having his heart in it. It isn't his ambition he's chasing, in these moments, it's Alphys's, so he can't wholeheartedly back it. It's shallow, and self-centered, but Mettaton is shallow and self-centered more often than not. He only gives others a second thought if they are very, very important to him, and even then, he'll put himself first.

Dear Diary: She surprised me with something today. Sketches of a body that she wants to create for me... a form beyond my wildest fantasies. In a form like that, I could finally feel like... "myself." After all, there's no way I can be a star the way I am now. Sorry, Blooky. My dreams can't wait for anyone...

If nothing else, he's ambitious. He wants to be a star, and he'll stop at nothing in the pursuit of his dreams, even going so far as to break promises and abandon friends and family without a second thought, and without looking back. Or, at least, without letting anyone see him looking back. After all, he's got dreams to chase, and he can't do that without keeping his eyes on the prize, right?

Oh yes. I suppose I should thank you, too, darling.
Before fighting you, I had...
Forgotten how fun it was to perform with others.
[//]
I REALIZED I WAS...
NOT THE GREATEST TO HER.
SO I WENT TO APOLOGIZE.

While he's ambitious to a fault, that does not mean he feels no remorse for leaving people behind, or being an awful friend in the process; however. In the pacifist route, he goes home and apologizes to Napstablook and Shyren for leaving them behind, and while he doesn't abandon his dreams to go back to them, he does make sure to drag them along with him, this time, and they all seem happier for it. In the neutral ending where he speaks to the player, he reflects on how he was not a good friend to Alphys, and admits to going back to apologize to her, too, but she can't be found. His expression indicates he regrets not doing so sooner, but he doesn't dwell on it for more than a moment.

UNDER MY RULE, THE UNDERGROUND'S PROBLEMS ARE OVER, BABY!
[...]
THERE ARE NO PROBLEMS, BEAUTIFUL!

If there are problems, of which there are many, he'll either do his very best to fix them, such as when he takes on the human in the genocide route in an effort to protect those people, things, and ideals which he cares for, or, if he is unable to do anything about the problems at hand, he will do his very best to ignore that they exist at all, insisting to himself and everyone else that they don't exist, and trying his hardest to cover them up, instead. Literally, with gold glitter, if it comes down to it.

"Enough of this! Do you really want humanity to perish!? ...Or do you just believe in yourself that much?" The time had come, finally, what he'd planned for, to kill the human, take their soul, break out and go to the surface to be the star humanity didn't know it needed, and yet, the human was fighting back. Didn't they know they couldn't possibly stand a chance against Asgore? Didn't they know that, with the barrier shattered, there would be a war waged on humanity, a war fueled by years and years of pent up anger and frustration at being kept confined to the underground? A war humanity wouldn't be expecting, one it would surely lose?

How could they want such a thing?

And yet, their determination persisted. Their attacks kept coming. He'd lost his arms already, and the joints at his hips were straining and sparking and he wasn't sure how long his legs would continue to stay attached. This body wasn't quite finished, and it showed, now, but it should have been fine. It would be fine, he'd just have to kill the human, get Alphys to repair him, and he'd be off to the surface.

"Haha, how inspiring! Well, darling! It's either me or you! But I think we both already know who's going to win. Witness the true power of humanity's star!" The human's determination was inspiring, and he was not above admitting it. No matter what he threw at them, they just kept coming, kept hitting, and despite his bravado, he wasn't as sure of himself as he should have been, as he proclaimed.

But there was no going back now, no giving up, no sparing them, because at this point, they weren't going to be sparing him.

A spark. An awful, crackling, metallic scraping. More shots from the human's soul directly to his own, and his balance was lost, his joints gave out in small, painful explosions, and his torso fell to the ground, and a dark expression fell over his face as the reality of the situation began to set in in the back of his mind, even as low battery alerts started firing off in rapid succession.

And still, he fought, the human fought.

"...Then... Are YOU the star? Can you really protect humanity!?" Maybe they were. Maybe they would go on to defeat Asgore and escape. Maybe it wasn't him, after all. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Uncertainty was never his strong suit, and it didn't sit right in his soul, but there it was. Sitting there. Chipping away at him from the inside just as much as the human was from the outside. The human who was still attacking, even with alerts firing off in his head warning him of his low hp along with his low battery. It was overwhelming. Discouraging. But still, he couldn't give up until the last!

And even then, Alphys would be able to fix him, anyway.

Right?

She'd have to, because one, two, three, four hits more and he couldn't do anything else, couldn't call forth bombs or blocks. Couldn't fire off electrical pulses... That was the last of his hp, and the human was still standing.

"H... ha... So I was wrong." Admission. Defeat. He was wrong, he wasn't the star, he wasn't anything. Just a robot. Just a ghost.

"Darling... You really are strong enough to get past Asgore." If they could get past him, with all his ambition and killing intent, then they could certainly get past Asgore, with his anger and hurt and fluffy idiot sentiment.

"Well then... It's time for you to go." Away. Away from him, and this fight they've won. Away from lying scientists and hired monsters. Away from the Underground entirely, because they'd surely escape.

"Don't worry about me. I might seem like I'm dying now, but... Dr. Alphys can always repair me." Don't worry, because there's nothing to worry about. He was a broken down robot, that needed repairs, that was all. Alphys would be exasperated with him for overdoing it, and would lecture him when he came around, but she'd still have dutifully put him back together again, like all the times he'd damaged prototypes when getting used to possessing a robot body, when he hadn't fully assimilated yet, when the extent of his worries were dings and scratches and showing off his combat features to their full ability so Alphys could be taken seriously. That was the deal, and she was the royal scientist now, so she'd be even more capable. Right? As his battery drained even quicker to keep him conscious with no hp left, he could do nothing more than trust.

"And... besides... Even if I'm not cut out to be a star... I still got to perform for a human, didn't I?" And wasn't that all he'd ever wanted? No... no, of course not, he wanted to be a star, he'd dreamed of it, lived it, abandoned so, so much in pursuit of it, but... this was it. His dream was cut short on Live TV, so there'd be no going forward. Even if he was repaired, he'd stagnate in the Underground anyway.

"So, thank you, darling... You've been a great audience!" They had. They really, truly had, even if they'd been standing on stage performing with him. Even if, in the end, they'd stolen the spotlight.

Because that had to be what this was, this odd fading of everything. Light was slipping away, but so was sensation, and thought. Even the blaring of warning messages faded and grew silent. The spotlight was gone first, but soon after went his own, dimming and blinking out one by one until only his soul was left, and that, too, faded away as unremarkably as the others when, finally, he was gone.

Mindset: He'll remember his death, but because he believed Alphys would have been able to repair him, he'll be disoriented at first, until he figures out what's going on. After that, there'll be a lingering vague sense of betrayal, but he's nothing if not adaptable and will get used to the change fairly quickly. After all, there are multiple humans here to perform for! A wider audience!
G̶̶l̨͡i̵͢t̷c͝͠h̕é͠s̷̷͡: While he's not easily shaken, he is dead set on chasing his dreams, and becoming the big star he's "meant" to be. Being held back or forced to dwell on his troubles will bother him quite a lot. He does care about others, even if he pretends not to, so facing head on the fact that he has been pretty awful to too many people he cares about is not something he enjoys, either. Being made out to be weak or worthless are other things that would get to him, as well as having to depend on others for almost anything, once he's self-sufficient. Breaking down would get to him, especially if no one is able to fix him, and taking longer than normal to charge would also be unsettling.
